Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Johnny Worthless here, got three on the docket this morning. The baby is asleep, so here we go.

First book of the day was The Goon #37. Lackluster cover. Dave Stewart rules. (He is the colorist, if you don't know his work by now look him up) Only in a Goon book will you hear 'Ghetto trash, beer tab tacos, and De-Monic Go-Rilla all in the same story. I never knew that The Goon was a union leader? Yes, that's right! The Goon tackles workers' rights in this issue. Art is fantastic. It's a touching story and couldn't be more appropriate with the current social climate. In the "Goon-Mail" (which is called 'Correspondences and Whatnot with Eric Powell') Powell explains the inspiration for the story. There is a Ragemoor #1 teaser in the back, Richard Corben (who is the artist for Ragemoor #1) has done some work on Hellboy before. I enjoy his work, Ragemoor looks cool.

Q: How do you make a comic book better?
A: Have Dave Stewart color it.

For Fans of... The Goon, Unions, 'The Man' getting his comeuppance!, Social Commentary

Valen the Outcast #2 was next. This is a new book I'm starting to read, found out about it through Previews. (If you don't check out Previews each month I highly recommend picking one up every 3-4 months, there is always something out there that one might be interested in that was missed on your normal radar). The story so far is King Valen is made a zombie, now he's going to get revenge on the Necromancer who made him that way. Not a fan of this cover, but it's better then Cover A. The chic on the cover is Zjanna, Valen's 'old friend'. There is a Drunk Guide named Cordovan (really). Valen looks like he's made of Rock. The names of everything are way over the top. Harrow's Thorn is really cool, but the moment is ruined by a 'Huzzah!' from the peanut gallery. (Harrow's Thorn is Valen's Sword) The book was very "jumpy" it didn't flow very well. There seems to be a disconnect between the writer and artist. Valen looks like my buddy Mikee. The Art is well done, the character design could have been better, but I liked the look of everyone. Big reveal at the end! I knew I was going to like this series from the synopsis (that's why I picked it up). Overall it was enjoyable, it reminded me of playing AD&D 2nd edition as a kid. I undoubtedly recommend this book for kids, as in kids old enough to enjoy decapitations.

For Fans of... Zombie Good Guys, Mikee D Adventures, Sword and Sorcery, Villains who speak in negative bubbles

Last book of the day was Star Trek #4. I'm loving these covers, I picked up two for this issue. (shown here is Cover A) There were a couple hiccups with the art, but this is the most cohesive looking book so far. Great Story, Great Concept. (Old Stories, New Crew) If your not reading this series you're missing out. It's great fun!

For Fans of... Chris Pine Star Trek, OG TV Shatner Star Trek, Science-Fiction

That's it for today.

Hope you enjoyed.

Thanks For Reading and Thanks for stopping by.

Leviathan Strikes!

Hello People of the Internets!!!

Johnny Worthless Here!

Grant Morrison's end to the fantastic Batman Incorporated, Leviathan Strikes! After reading this one I had to give it it's own rant. This is the beginning of the end for the 'Morrison Run' on Batman. The end being this year's Batman Incorporated Leviathan (at least that's what it's called at the moment) it all started around six years ago with Batman and Son. It's a huge sprawling epic which is set to wrap up at the end of 2012. Just in time for the whole end of the world thing... Anyways, If you haven't read any of the 'Morrison Run' I can't recommend it enough. It's B A D A Double SS to the max. Below I'll list the run in it's entirety.

So back to Leviathan Strikes! DC teased a lot of what was going to happen in this book, if your looking for answers for anything involving the status quo of the new 52, look somewhere else. We were left hanging back in the 'good ole days' of the DC Universe as to what happen to the gang of Batman Inc. here are your answers. The OG run on Inc ended with issue #8, this book is issues #9 and #10 put together in a mini-maxi format. Nothing too earth shattering or anything like that. I mean you find out who Leviathan is, which is cool, I didn't have a clue it was who it was. You get to see Stephanie, (who forgot how much I miss), Dick as Batman, Tim Drake as the pimp-suited Red Robin, and Bruce in the Inc suit. This all takes place pre-new 52. It's a great ending, a fun read, it makes you want more.

Personally I thought Batman Inc felt kind of dis-jointed and didn't have a lot of cohesion from issue to issue. Leviathan Strikes! brings everything together from the whole Batman Inc. series. There are definitely new questions. There were plenty topics when reading single issues of Batman Inc. that left me scratching my head. After reading this I now found myself saying, "Oh, that makes sense...". It's Grant Morrison that is going to happen from time to time.

What I'm trying to say is I think the best way that one could read this part of the 'Morrison Run' is back-to-back.

Below is the cover (or slated cover) for the Batman Incorporated Volume 1 Hardcover. It's due out April 17th, I highly recommend this book. Till then you might be able to score all 8 issues if you're lucky. Read it all together, you'll thank me after you're done.

Well that's about it for tonight. Here's the 'Morrison Run' list, It's awesome. I recommend you start at the beginning (I didn't and you can hop on anywhere) they're all great books.

Batman and Son
The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul (with Paul Dini)
The Black Glove
Batman: R. I. P.
Final Crisis
Time and The Batman
Batman and Robin Vol. 1, 2, and 3
The Return of Bruce Wayne
Batman Inc. Vol. 1 (April 17th)
Batman Inc.: Leviathan Strikes!
Batman Inc.:Leviathan (Due out this year)

There you have it kids! I might be missing something, one of these days I'll make a definitive list with One million and JLA and Everything!!! But that's for another time. (Yea! Earth 2)

Thanks for reading, and Thanks for stopping by!

And Happy New Year!!!

Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Johnny Worthless here, the five on the roster today are kind of a hodge-podge from the past month/week. Trying out some new titles and some were recommended.

So here we go.

First book today is Star Wars: Agent of the Empire: Iron Eclipse Part 1. Cool name a bit long but cool. Very excited about this series it's a 5 parter. We meet Imperial Agent Jahan Cross, think Star Wars James Bond. Art is Quality. They do a good job of using Star Wars tech and familiar 'Star Warsy' things from known sources, (Clone Wars, OG Movies) seems very natural. Corporate Sector Action, very cool to see. It's uncharted territory for me, I've only ever had the RPG book so I would make up my own Corporate Sector stories. Han and Chewie make a cameo, it's not annoying or over the top. This looks like a gooden'. Most Star Wars writers really do there homework. I'm a fan of Ostrander (Yea Hawkman!) that was another reason this was a No-Brainer to pick this one up.

For Fans of... Star Wars Expanded Universe, Awesomeness, The Corporate Sector, John Ostrander

Batman: The Brave and the Bold # 13 was up next. Awesome cover, that's what led me to this book in the first place. My buddy's daughters have a couple of books from this series. They always looked fun, but to 'kiddish' as soon as I saw this cover I had to check it out. Great Robin story, If you're trying to teach your kids about Robins, (or cave people who think there has been only one) this would be a great tool. As you can guess from the cover all Robin's assemble Past, Present, and Future. Art was fun, just like the TV show. What can I say? I love Robins, If you do too, This book's for you!!! But, really it's for kids.

For Fans of... Robins, Goofy Team-ups, Brave and the Bold Cartoon

I was waiting to read this one for almost a month, The Goon # 36. I haven't read a Goon book in some time. I'm a big Eric Powell fan, he's got a great, if not odd (as in odd to you 'normal' folk out there) sense of humor, It's right up my alley! This issue has a 'real-life' guest star in ROXY DLITE, The Drinkin', Smokin', Strippin' Machine. How could I not buy this? It's a fun story The Goon and Franky (The Goon's pal) get into trouble, throw Roxi into the mix, the boys get out of trouble, (for the moment) the end. Great book, I'll be reading the Goon from here on out. If you like Humor and Hellboy, you'll love The Goon. Oh yea, not for kids.

For Fans of... Strippers, Funny, Eric Powell, Hot Human on Harpie Action

Next up Supergirl #3. Overall good book, there is something about 'Super-Family' villains that is a big turn-off for me, they look/are lame. Now for turn-ons... Whoa!!! Good Lord! Fanboys bring your drool rags to this party, the art is fantastic. Lots of crotch shots, I mean a lot, different angles and everything. If I was a Supergirl fan I'd be chopping at the bit for this book each month. That being said, Kara has basically started from ground zero with issue #1 of the new 52, it's only issue 3 so if you're interested there is still time... I'm going to leave it at that do to the fact everything I've typed to end this review sounds way too dirty.

For Fans of... Blondes, Supergirl, Gratuitous Crotch Shots

Last book of the night/day/afternoon is All Star Western # 3. I hadn't a clue what went on in the previous 2 issues of this series. Sweet Cover, that's what mainly sold me on this one. I'm pretty sure a horse wasn't 500 dollars (or 500 anything) 'back then', maybe I'm wrong. The art was sloppy, there were some really good parts, it's just not my cup of tea. I feel they're trying to tie too many things together in Gotham. In the realm of dare I say George Lucas, I don't like that. Don't get me wrong I like Jonah Hex, I just like him best as a back up, a side note to the story of Batman/Gotham. ( If that doesn't start a bar fight I don't know what will) Speaking of Back-ups... The El Diablo back up was great, I've never heard of him before, (that I can remember) the character was super cool. I'll look out for El Diablo stories in the future, but won't be picking up All Star Western again anytime soon.

For Fans of... Jonah Hex, Westerns, Antique Drive-bys

Sidebar...

I watched Batman: Year One last night. Great Movie, may be the best that DC has done straight to DVD. Classic even, if you haven't read the OG source material (cover shown to the left) just go buy it. The comic is on every one's top ten lists for a reason.

That's it for now kids.

Where else can you get info on Comics for kids, Strippers and Harpies, and DVD reviews all at the same place?

A big Worthless Thank You to everybody!!!

Thanks for Reading and Thanks for stopping by...

Happy Holidays

Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Five Books on the Roster Tonight, comments are now working so don't be afraid to leave one or five.

Here we go...

First book of the night was Star Trek #3, "The Galileo Seven" Part 1. If you didn't already know this series is based upon the re-imaginings of the exploits of the OG 'Shatner Crew' starring the cast of the J. J. Abrams film reboot. Love the cover. Did someone forget to color the blood red? Censorship? Overall Great Book. The lack of red blood did disturb me, but it was a great read. I'm very excited about this series. I'm not sure what's going on with the art though. It was very sporadic throughout the entire issue, it almost looks as if they're taking stills and drawing over them to get the crew right. After reading this one I want to go back and watch the OG episode. I'll wait till after the conclusion next month. IDW definitely has a winner with this one.

For fans of... Awesomeness, Star Trek, Zoe Saldana

Justice League International #4 was up next. Awesome cover, Finch doing what he does best, sweet eye candy. Peraxxus is Super Cool, I'm a big fan. August General in Iron is great, he might be my favorite of this series so-far. Sweet Splash of the entire crew, Vixen even looked like she belonged there. So it looks like it's the end for planet earth. Good Book, we'll have to find out if the JLI will save the day next month. I'm going to guess yes.

For fans of... Classic Superhero Team Romps, The end of the world, Large Robots, Kirby-esque Villains, Fondling Bruce Wayne

Speaking of old Bat-Pants, Detective Comics #4 came next. After reading this issue I am saddened and confused. I was sure that after issue 3 this issue would be the slam dunk ending to a good intro story to the Dollmaker and his crew. That never really happened. I'm not even sure if the arc has come to an end? Detective at the moment is probably on the bottom of my Bat-list, for who's been naughty and oh so nice in the new 52. This makes me sad because TSD was really coming into his own at the end of his run on the Batman book. He had all these great characters and interweaving threads, it was great, this all feels hollow somehow. Or am I supposed to be confused? I'm also unsure about when this book is taking place. From what I know it's current, but they've been making a lot of "5 years in the past" references. Maybe this one is also in the past like AC and JL. Anybody have info on that? I will always read Detective, I have taken an oath. This issue was very Anti-climatic.

For fans of... Puppet Master, Raggedy Ann and Andy, Magnets

Hands down best new series of the new 52, the journey of David Zavimbe continues in Batwing#4. So Ben Oliver just did the cover of this issue, a little worried about that. We get to see Batwing "batwinging" around, art good so-far. More black blood, is this for digital? I'm thinking it is. Finally got some red blood. Batwing scores again, even without Oliver it was great. I even forgot Winick was writing, I was just enthralled by David's story. Where are the Batwing Tee-shirts?

For fans of... David Zavimbe (if you're not a fan yet become one now)

Last of the night my first venture into Grant Morrison's Superman Party-time Action Comics #4. I only picked this up because I heard Steel was making his debut. The main book wasn't very interesting. I guess I saw the first appearance of Steel, Superman is pretty lame with his little costume on. I know what happened to the city it was kind of obvious. I guess if you knew nothing about Supes at all this might be cool, but it's not. The backup story with Steel was great, if you like John Henry Irons check this one out. The backup makes the book worthwhile. When does Steel get his own book? I'll be there for that.

For fans of... Kal-El the cos-play boy, Steel, Saying I told you so because you know Grant Morrison wouldn't write garbage in the end (or would he?)

That's it for tonight guys and gals.

Remember feel free to leave comments.

I'd like to thank the great people at 1up Collectibles for giving me this space to rant, also my wife for putting up with me and my comics.

Thanks For stopping by and Thanks for Reading.

Johnny Worthless Returns

Hello People of the Internets...

Sorry that took so long, but now I'm back with two weeks of books for you to check out, or not... We've got a lot to cover, so here we go...

Oh! And Look Ma!!! Non-DC books!!!

First book is Teen Titans #2. Tim Drake doing things is great to watch, don't get me wrong. Overall this issue was boring. The art during action sequences is great, but when the story slows down the quality just isn't there. The only reason I'll still be reading this one next month is because of my Man-Love for Tim, did I say that out loud? Hopefully Titans is just off to a slow start, Hopefully.

Flash #2 was book two of the night. I can't rave enough about this one. Great cover, Great art, Great dialogue, Great story. If you're not reading the Flash start now. I'm not going to spoil anything, but it's such a simple concept that they put forth in issue two I can't believe it hasn't been brought up before. Anyways, pick this one up.

With Bats getting his clock cleaned on the cover, Dark Knight #2 was next in the pile. There is a 'Batstravaganza' of cameos in this issue. Lots of dialogue, it actually took more then 2 minutes to read. Looks good as always, there were a couple shots of Bruce that weren't that great. Overall the art was on par with how the other DK books under Finch have been. If you're not reading this series month to month make sure you check it out in trade form when they start collecting the issues. I already like this arc better than the "Golden Dawn" story from vol. 1.

Here to our left is the cover of Aquaman #2. It's weak, it's a cop-out. Scary "trench" face with Aquaman from the first issue's cover in it's eyes. Oooohhhhh, scary. That being said, I do like it. Conceptually it's a cool cover, they just failed in pulling it off. I also like bad things sometimes, this being one of those times. So Mera is alive and kicking (that isn't really a spoiler). The Trench creatures aren't portrayed very well. Instead of looking terrifying or creepy they look badly drawn. Something really needs to be done about their look, if they want this volume to stay afloat (Ha!). Great Read, went by way to quick. Aquaman's one of my favorites of the new DCU.

Justice League International #3 was the first number 3 I read of the new 52! (Well I was excited about it) Sweet Finch cover with Bruce, Guy, and the British Bird with hair powers (don't ask), her name is Godiva. Introduction to all characters, nice. I didn't catch it before but Beatriz's suit is sweet, I want to see more of it. In short, SOLD. I'm hooked into JLI now, I told myself after a disappointing #1 I'd stick around till issue 3. I'm in for the long haul now. I love these characters. The Chinese dude is a new favorite, August General in Iron? Did I say that right? Dan Jurgens has the chops, I don't always like what he writes, but he's a pro. He knows what he's doing. The snippet in the back with Jurgens and Copresti is cool.

My Personal favorite of the new 52, Batwing. Tonight's issue was Batwing #3. Great cover, Ben Oliver you rule. David Zavimbe is such a Badass, I now like the Batwing 'mask'. I wasn't a fan because it's kinda goofy looking and doesn't make much sense, but I like it now. At least anytime Ben Oliver is drawing it. Batwing and company deliver the goods once again! This book should be winning awards.
Up next! Detective Comics #3. So-So cover. The new villains are

cool, I like the whole 'family aspect, ( see Lunatacs from Thudercats). I'm not sure I spelled that right. TSD rocks! It's heating up on the Detective circuit! If you haven't already go pick this one up. The story really came into it's own this issue. Things coming together, others falling apart. I'm hooked.

First Official Johnny Worthless Non-DC book is Fear Agent #32. I love Heath Huston he's a man after my own heart. This one is special because it's the last issue. The book starts out with a warning..." If you haven't read the book up to this point, you shouldn't read this issue." Part 5 of Out of Step the "Final" issue of Fear Agent. I read it anyway, and cried. No ads, No BS, Just Pure Comic. Great Ending. If you want to read some great comics go start at the beginning. Fear Agent by Rick Remender.

This is the original cover to part one of Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham. DC has been re-releasing old stories from there vaults, this is
the first one I've picked up, it originally came out in 1999. I've never even heard of this one before. I'm a Huge fan of the Jim Balent Catwoman work. Good story, dialogue isn't that great, but it's not dated and definitely still holds up. Balent never really drew that great of a Batman, the rest of the art is great. Hot Chicks Abound! It's an Elseworlds tale, a fun romp. It's a perfect size, not sure it's worth it's 7.99 price tag, but I missed it the first time around. I wasn't going to miss it again. Check it out.

The last book tonight is from IDW's new ongoing Star Trek series Star Trek #2. This comic smelled great, If you're a comic fan you'll know what I'm talking about. High Quality Paper. The premise of this series is taking the "new" crew of the Enterprise, from the J. J. Abrams film, on adventures from or inspired by the OG series. I loved the new film, and I am afan of the old series, so this was a no-brainer. Issue #2 was good, it went fast, it was a part two from issue #1. Had a good review in the front to catch you up to speed. The Art is good, everyone looks like the actors. They sound like them too. Rumor has it that these adventures are taking place between the Reboot film and the sequel that they're working on now. Insert corny Boldly Go Joke.

That's it kids!

It's good to be back.

Thanks for stopping by and Thanks for Reading!!!

Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Johnny Worthless here, hope this finds you and yours happy and healthy. Five books in the Que tonight. I was very excited to read all the issues that I picked up ( I'm putting that at the top here so I don't have to repeat it five times). So here we go...

I started with Justice League # 2, mainly because of the whole 'five years before' deal that is going on. If you don't already know Action Comics and JL are happening five years prior to all the other books in the new 52. I wanted to see if issue 2 would shed any new light on the new DCU... They dropped a few crumbs, but nothing very big. We pick up where we left off last issue, very cool beginning. I like when scenes are alluded to and not fully shown. Instead of wasting precious page time on things we've all seen 10,000 times. Nice Splash/Title page. And another sweet double Splash. Hal calls Bruce a Tool. (HA!) Victor's Dad is a dick. As soon as this book got started it ended. There were some cool additions at the end though, a Wonder Woman teaser and a really nice 'Sketchbook' with Supes and Bats. I'll be back for more next month.

Worst cover of the night goes to Birds of Prey #2. Anything Katana puts on is better than any previous costume I've ever seen her wear. I don't like this one, but it's an improvement. It looks like I'll be waiting for a while for this series to really "take off" (Ha). I know it's only issue 2, but they're sure taking there time 'forming' the team. Will it be a revolving roster? Or maybe the same Hot Chic Squad every month with Hot Chic guest stars? It was a good read, not a lot of action. I'm looking forward to this one after they get past the whole 'this is how we came to be the Birds of Prey' story.

Sidebar...

The new tbs Big Bang Theory ad sucks compared to the old 'comic' version that had been sporting in the books lately. Still a good show just a bad ad comparatively.

Book three was Catwoman #2, I haven't heard one person say anything about the end of issue 1, I mean really? Did you all miss that? If you don't know what I'm talking about go find Catwoman #1. I still can't believe that it didn't make front page news in some way, shape, or form. Love this cover (although the one to your left is not the final one used for print). Substance! First page, amazing, next one... We don't need to see Bruce's bare chest. Sorry, was that for the ladies? (Sorry ladies, if that was for you) Catwoman's favorite color in the new DCU is purple (that is an educated guess). Great book. This is a way darker and edgier take on Selina. If you've ever been a fan of Catwoman in any incarnation, check this out. This Selina might be your favorite kitty.

I opted for Nightwing #2 next. Not the best cover... definitely in the realm of bad-cover-month. Pacing was great through the whole book. Dick's back to slaying the ladies again, that was always his M. O. though. Kyle Higgins really knows Dick Grayson, great job Kyle. I think I said it before, Thanks Kyle. Get this one on your Pull-list ASAP.

Dear, Batman: Noel Preview

I Hate You, Go Away.

Thanks, Johnny Worthless

This is space that DC could be using to highlight other 52 books that are coming out. Why DC, Why?

So far it's been Vehicle Month in the 'Bat' books... Detective had the Batwing, B&R had the Batmobile, and here we have the Batcycle on the cover of Batman #2. Great book, learning new information about Gotham, new characters, new villains! Art and Story are fantastic. I love to know more about the 'Bat-world', Scott Snyder is delivering the goods. It's straight-forward and covertly done all at the same time. Check out Gates of Gotham if you haven't already. Bruce is a stone cold pimp. Go pick this one up now.

I tried to pick up something from the Marvel Camp but couldn't bring myself to buy any of the ones I was interested in due to the cover prices all being $ 3.99 and over. If I'm into a book, price really doesn't matter in the short term. But to pick something up for the first time, $ 4.99 really turns me off.

I will be starting to read IDW's new Star Trek Ongoing Series that started in September. More on that when I get a hold of it.

Word on the Street is that I will be able to Comment on the Comments, I will try this if someone leaves a comment.

Thanks So much for stopping by, and Thanks for Reading!

Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Six books tonight... I think that is a new Worthless Record! Woot, Woot! So let's begin...

First book of the night was Superboy #2. This cover sucks, that's all I have to say about that. Is 'protestations' a word? If so what exactly does it mean? I pretty sure that protesting things is a big part of it... or maybe it was a joke I didn't get. Two words, Rose Wilson. Superboy's suit is way cooler then the old jeans and a tee deal Connor was wearing (I never was a fan of that look). Great art throughout the entire book. This Superboy seems to be getting off on the right foot.

Book two of the night was Batwoman #2. J.H.W. III is the bomb. There is nothing mainstream out now to compare with what J.H.W. III is doing in this book. Loved the Batman Inc action. There was a character synopsis in the beginning of the book. I don't particularly think that it is a good one, but I was thankful for it. It just gave that first page overview of the character, as DC has been doing lately, and answered some questions, but it wasn't very organic. I also might be out of the loop when it comes to Kate Kane. Bruce had a cameo. I don't really like Kate, but she makes a great Batwoman. Great book, pick it up.

Now this is a good cover! Batgirl #2. Lead character + Villain x Sweet Pose = Cover Gold. So Babs was shot 3 years ago... Did we just find that out, or did they tell us last month? The Commissioner's newly red locks are annoying. I completely got caught up in this one, great read. I'm still waiting on a good explanation to the whole walking thing, with that being said. Go pick this puppy up now.

Sidebar...

I'd like a full roster of all the GCPD please, I have no idea who anyone is anymore. Now I'm not saying I want to know about them, I don't, (Sorry Greg Rucka) I just want a little who's who's action of the entire force, then I want everyone to use those cops and not keep making up new ones. Please, there are way too many and it's only the second month of this...

The next in the pile was Grifter #2. This book needs a new logo, as you can see the one currently in use has a cheese factor of 11. Not a fan. Overall cover... try harder next time. I recall the term 'Daemonite', was it from Wildcats? I still haven't a clue to what's going on here, It's like 'They Live' (yea, Roddy Piper). Issue 2 wasn't as good or as exciting as issue 1, but I'll be back for for next month.

Deathstroke #2 was next up with another lack-luster cover. I mean really, lets redo the universe then for the second issue of each comic we'll try do put out the worst covers we can think of? Content! The new Deathstroke logo also needs some work. Overall it was a good book, you definitely get the picture that they are trying to let you know how B-A-D-A-Double S-S Slade is. I normally don't really get impressed by colorists, Dave Stewart excluded,

but Kudos to Jason Wright. Fantastic job, everything had a cool watercolor-y look to it. I like when Slade cuts off the tops of people's heads. Deathstroke rules.

Sidebar...

Not all of the books had the Batman: Noel preview in them, thank you DC.

Last book of the night was Batman & Robin #2.

I take back everything I said bad about this cover last week. After adding the colors and book logos this one turned out to be a gem. It looks great, Damian still looks like a jerk, but that's his thing. Anyways... Great montage at the start of the story. This is setting up allot of stuff to go down, I have lots of questions, and got few answers this month. I have to do some research. Damian needs help, Pronto! Go pick it up and see why!!!

That does it for the comics, Thanks for stopping by.

As of writing this tonight I still haven't been able to respond to comments, the tech people are working on that, Sorry I haven't been able to write back. There will be some non-DC reviews coming soon, as in next week. I'd like to thank 1up Collectibles again for giving me this space to rant.

Thanks for Reading, and Thanks again for Stopping by.

Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Hope everyone is doing well, thanks for joining us for the reviews. If it's you're first time I don't try to give any spoilers, so you don't have to worry about that. What I do give is my two cents on what I'm reading for the week. So, Here we go...

First book of the night was Batwing#2. After the cliffhanger from issue 1 I had to start here. Pick up #1 if you can still find a copy out there. I love the look of this book. Kudos to Ben Oliver and Brian Reber (they're the art team). I'm surprised to see the rating for this book is teen and not at least teen +. This book is graphic. (That is somehow a bad pun) David Zavimbe is Awesome. Pick this one up, I need a Batwing tee shirt, you do too.

I didn't realize till last night that Huntress #1 was coming out today. It's the first issue of a six part run, I'm a big Helena Bertinelli fan. I haven't given her much thought lately (as in the past decade?), every time she'd pop up was with a bunch of other heroes. I'm sure there are good stories out there, I haven't come across that many for awhile. Anyway, it's a weak cover, but I like the pair of panties hanging from the close line as to say 'Wait! This book is gonna be Sexy!!!'. If you haven't see them yet take a closer look. Interior art was great. I don't like the Huntress suit they've been using (for I don't know how long). It sucks, why does she have "bat ears", it's lame. Really, it's hard to look at, those lame ass bat-ear-things. Just when the story starts moving along and every one's having a good time... Out come the damn "bat ears" and the mood is ruined. Awesome book, but it's time for a new costume.

This was one of my favorites last month, here's the rundown for Swamp Thing #2. I have no idea what is going on. Well I kind of do, but not really. That being said, it's a great book. One of the best of the new 52, at least so far. It looks like they are completely re-doing Swamp Thing, which (if so) will be wicked cool to watch unfold. There is a pretty big Zombie/Horror thing going on here too, if you're into that type of thing. Scott Snyder and Yanick Paquette are both top-notch. The panel separations through the entire book are stellar. Start reading Swamp Thing now.

Now we come to JLI #2, I was worried about this one. Awesome cover, it totally makes up for the cover of issue #1. This is the Booster Gold vehicle, I like Booster that's why I'm reading this one. Also Bruce is in it, and Beatriz too. Holy Redemption Batman!!! I wasn't a fan of issue 1, issue 2 is fantastic. Great dialogue, it's funny, a bit touching, and just an all around good team book. I thought the first one was way too childish. This is way more the JLI that I know and love. The old-school members in the book are Fire and Ice, Guy, Booster, Bruce, and Rocket Red. (just a heads up)

I'm not a fan of when the exact same "preview" is in the back of all issues for that week or month, it sucks. I'm sick of the Batman: Noel "preview" already, I hope it's gone next week and doesn't run the whole month.

I was going to pick up Penguin: Pain and Prejudice but I skipped it, I've read some articles since and might have to pick it up later, I'll let you know how it goes.

Last but not least for the night was Detective Comics #2. Right off the Bat (ha) I'm not a fan of this cover, I'm a huge TSD fan, but this is an all right splash page not a good cover. I liked issue 1's cover but this one is weak. Maybe DC is doing bat-vehicle month? I saw for the next B&R cover it's Bruce and Damian in the Batmobile. Not a fan of that one either. Interior art great as always. Meanwhile... Hold the boat!!! (bat-boat I guess) Did they just show Dr. Arkham after showing him crazy inside the asylum in Batman? Really? I'm hoping it's his brother Jakie or something. Gordon smokes again, kinda. He's been a cop for ten years at this point. (It's a timeline thing) In conclusion... WTF? (that's for you Uncle Charlie) One wild thing after another is happening here in Gotham. This shit is crazy, can't wait for next month.

Stop picking on Aquaman people and read his damn comic.

Thanks for stopping by.

And Thanks for reading.

Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Johnny Worthless here. I'm going to give my two cents on the books I've picked up for this week.

I guess tonight is my first official comics review now that it's being posted in the proper place. Anyways here we go...

First book of the night was Teen Titans #1. The cover was already making me like this book more. I wasn't a fan of the promo art DC had been using up until the release today. Who took the pic of Tim and Bruce in the beginning of the story? I'm thinking that memento is a little far-fetched. Overall it was So-So. From what (I think) I know N.O.W.H.E.R.E. (which sucks to type) is an old concept, something the "Powers that Be" plucked out of the annals of the old DCU, if in name only. The art was good, I thought the dialogue was weak. This is supposed to be the Tim Drake vehicle, I'm still mad he doesn't have his own book. The wings weren't too bad. We'll see where this one goes. I'll probably be angry with the treatment of Tim Drake for awhile, but I'll keep coming back for more.

Book two of the night was Flash #1. I never was a Flash reader, but he always played an integral part in defeating evil action figures at home. I picked this up after reading an article on the team of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato. Sweet cover, definitely one of the best of the new 52, straight and to the point. Flash was the only character after Flashpoint that I really wanted to know what he was going to do afterwards. { I just erased some stuff about Kid Flash, We'll talk about that some other time } Awesome panels of Barry getting into costume. Great Artwork. I was in love with this book by page 4. I liked the "I'm the Flash and I have an iPad" part of the story. It's the Flash I remember playing with as a kid, just fast as Hell. Solid book, Great read, pick it up.

The Big Bang Theory ad is bomb, my wife loves that show. Geeks tell your women to watch it, they'll enjoy.

By the ultra technology usage of the picture to the left you know book 3 was Aquaman #1. I don't like Boston. It's nice to see everyone treating Aquaman like shit. This book was hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud more than a couple times. (a couple is two if you wanted to know) Another great story to start off a new run, they basically went over Arthur's origin through a series of events. For the record Aquaman was always my brother's favorite superhero. In short, Aquaman rules and he has two hands.

Sidebar again...

I've noticed alot of the books, in the new DCU, have things in common. From type to how they present locations and creators and whatnot. Oh! and red glowing chic too! It gives a nice cohesion, Way to go DC.

Final comic of the night BATMAN: The Dark Knight #1. Bruce thought the word 'Goblin', that made me giggle. Bats and the GCPD going into Arkham felt like it was out of Aliens. Very Suspenseful. Go get this one while it's around. The Finch Bat-books go by so fast you need to read at least 3 in a row to make any sense of what's going on, but boy are they pretty.

That's it for tonight.

I'd like to thank the wonderful people of 1up Collectibles for giving me this space to fill with my junk. Thanks for stopping by and Thanks for reading.
