Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Johnny Worthless here, hope this finds you and yours happy and healthy. Five books in the Que tonight. I was very excited to read all the issues that I picked up ( I'm putting that at the top here so I don't have to repeat it five times). So here we go...

I started with Justice League # 2, mainly because of the whole 'five years before' deal that is going on. If you don't already know Action Comics and JL are happening five years prior to all the other books in the new 52. I wanted to see if issue 2 would shed any new light on the new DCU... They dropped a few crumbs, but nothing very big. We pick up where we left off last issue, very cool beginning. I like when scenes are alluded to and not fully shown. Instead of wasting precious page time on things we've all seen 10,000 times. Nice Splash/Title page. And another sweet double Splash. Hal calls Bruce a Tool. (HA!) Victor's Dad is a dick. As soon as this book got started it ended. There were some cool additions at the end though, a Wonder Woman teaser and a really nice 'Sketchbook' with Supes and Bats. I'll be back for more next month.

Worst cover of the night goes to Birds of Prey #2. Anything Katana puts on is better than any previous costume I've ever seen her wear. I don't like this one, but it's an improvement. It looks like I'll be waiting for a while for this series to really "take off" (Ha). I know it's only issue 2, but they're sure taking there time 'forming' the team. Will it be a revolving roster? Or maybe the same Hot Chic Squad every month with Hot Chic guest stars? It was a good read, not a lot of action. I'm looking forward to this one after they get past the whole 'this is how we came to be the Birds of Prey' story.

The new tbs Big Bang Theory ad sucks compared to the old 'comic' version that had been sporting in the books lately. Still a good show just a bad ad comparatively.

Book three was Catwoman #2, I haven't heard one person say anything about the end of issue 1, I mean really? Did you all miss that? If you don't know what I'm talking about go find Catwoman #1. I still can't believe that it didn't make front page news in some way, shape, or form. Love this cover (although the one to your left is not the final one used for print). Substance! First page, amazing, next one... We don't need to see Bruce's bare chest. Sorry, was that for the ladies? (Sorry ladies, if that was for you) Catwoman's favorite color in the new DCU is purple (that is an educated guess). Great book. This is a way darker and edgier take on Selina. If you've ever been a fan of Catwoman in any incarnation, check this out. This Selina might be your favorite kitty.

I opted for Nightwing #2 next. Not the best cover... definitely in the realm of bad-cover-month. Pacing was great through the whole book. Dick's back to slaying the ladies again, that was always his M. O. though. Kyle Higgins really knows Dick Grayson, great job Kyle. I think I said it before, Thanks Kyle. Get this one on your Pull-list ASAP.

Dear, Batman: Noel Preview

I Hate You, Go Away.

Thanks, Johnny Worthless

This is space that DC could be using to highlight other 52 books that are coming out. Why DC, Why?

So far it's been Vehicle Month in the 'Bat' books... Detective had the Batwing, B&R had the Batmobile, and here we have the Batcycle on the cover of Batman #2. Great book, learning new information about Gotham, new characters, new villains! Art and Story are fantastic. I love to know more about the 'Bat-world', Scott Snyder is delivering the goods. It's straight-forward and covertly done all at the same time. Check out Gates of Gotham if you haven't already. Bruce is a stone cold pimp. Go pick this one up now.

I tried to pick up something from the Marvel Camp but couldn't bring myself to buy any of the ones I was interested in due to the cover prices all being $ 3.99 and over. If I'm into a book, price really doesn't matter in the short term. But to pick something up for the first time, $ 4.99 really turns me off.

I will be starting to read IDW's new Star Trek Ongoing Series that started in September. More on that when I get a hold of it.

Word on the Street is that I will be able to Comment on the Comments, I will try this if someone leaves a comment.

Thanks So much for stopping by, and Thanks for Reading!

Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Six books tonight... I think that is a new Worthless Record! Woot, Woot! So let's begin...

First book of the night was Superboy #2. This cover sucks, that's all I have to say about that. Is 'protestations' a word? If so what exactly does it mean? I pretty sure that protesting things is a big part of it... or maybe it was a joke I didn't get. Two words, Rose Wilson. Superboy's suit is way cooler then the old jeans and a tee deal Connor was wearing (I never was a fan of that look). Great art throughout the entire book. This Superboy seems to be getting off on the right foot.

Book two of the night was Batwoman #2. J.H.W. III is the bomb. There is nothing mainstream out now to compare with what J.H.W. III is doing in this book. Loved the Batman Inc action. There was a character synopsis in the beginning of the book. I don't particularly think that it is a good one, but I was thankful for it. It just gave that first page overview of the character, as DC has been doing lately, and answered some questions, but it wasn't very organic. I also might be out of the loop when it comes to Kate Kane. Bruce had a cameo. I don't really like Kate, but she makes a great Batwoman. Great book, pick it up.

Now this is a good cover! Batgirl #2. Lead character + Villain x Sweet Pose = Cover Gold. So Babs was shot 3 years ago... Did we just find that out, or did they tell us last month? The Commissioner's newly red locks are annoying. I completely got caught up in this one, great read. I'm still waiting on a good explanation to the whole walking thing, with that being said. Go pick this puppy up now.

I'd like a full roster of all the GCPD please, I have no idea who anyone is anymore. Now I'm not saying I want to know about them, I don't, (Sorry Greg Rucka) I just want a little who's who's action of the entire force, then I want everyone to use those cops and not keep making up new ones. Please, there are way too many and it's only the second month of this...

The next in the pile was Grifter #2. This book needs a new logo, as you can see the one currently in use has a cheese factor of 11. Not a fan. Overall cover... try harder next time. I recall the term 'Daemonite', was it from Wildcats? I still haven't a clue to what's going on here, It's like 'They Live' (yea, Roddy Piper). Issue 2 wasn't as good or as exciting as issue 1, but I'll be back for for next month.

Deathstroke #2 was next up with another lack-luster cover. I mean really, lets redo the universe then for the second issue of each comic we'll try do put out the worst covers we can think of? Content! The new Deathstroke logo also needs some work. Overall it was a good book, you definitely get the picture that they are trying to let you know how B-A-D-A-Double S-S Slade is. I normally don't really get impressed by colorists, Dave Stewart excluded,

but Kudos to Jason Wright. Fantastic job, everything had a cool watercolor-y look to it. I like when Slade cuts off the tops of people's heads. Deathstroke rules.

Not all of the books had the Batman: Noel preview in them, thank you DC.

Last book of the night was Batman & Robin #2.

I take back everything I said bad about this cover last week. After adding the colors and book logos this one turned out to be a gem. It looks great, Damian still looks like a jerk, but that's his thing. Anyways... Great montage at the start of the story. This is setting up allot of stuff to go down, I have lots of questions, and got few answers this month. I have to do some research. Damian needs help, Pronto! Go pick it up and see why!!!

That does it for the comics, Thanks for stopping by.

As of writing this tonight I still haven't been able to respond to comments, the tech people are working on that, Sorry I haven't been able to write back. There will be some non-DC reviews coming soon, as in next week. I'd like to thank 1up Collectibles again for giving me this space to rant.

Thanks for Reading, and Thanks again for Stopping by.

You can check out the entire gallery of photos on flickr here, and be sure to tune into AMC on October 16th for the premiere of The Walking Dead airs 9 PM EST/8PM CST. Johnny Worthless Reviews Comics

Hello People of the Internets...

Hope everyone is doing well, thanks for joining us for the reviews. If it's you're first time I don't try to give any spoilers, so you don't have to worry about that. What I do give is my two cents on what I'm reading for the week. So, Here we go...

First book of the night was Batwing#2. After the cliffhanger from issue 1 I had to start here. Pick up #1 if you can still find a copy out there. I love the look of this book. Kudos to Ben Oliver and Brian Reber (they're the art team). I'm surprised to see the rating for this book is teen and not at least teen +. This book is graphic. (That is somehow a bad pun) David Zavimbe is Awesome. Pick this one up, I need a Batwing tee shirt, you do too.

I didn't realize till last night that Huntress #1 was coming out today. It's the first issue of a six part run, I'm a big Helena Bertinelli fan. I haven't given her much thought lately (as in the past decade?), every time she'd pop up was with a bunch of other heroes. I'm sure there are good stories out there, I haven't come across that many for awhile. Anyway, it's a weak cover, but I like the pair of panties hanging from the close line as to say 'Wait! This book is gonna be Sexy!!!'. If you haven't see them yet take a closer look. Interior art was great. I don't like the Huntress suit they've been using (for I don't know how long). It sucks, why does she have "bat ears", it's lame. Really, it's hard to look at, those lame ass bat-ear-things. Just when the story starts moving along and every one's having a good time... Out come the damn "bat ears" and the mood is ruined. Awesome book, but it's time for a new costume.

This was one of my favorites last month, here's the rundown for Swamp Thing #2. I have no idea what is going on. Well I kind of do, but not really. That being said, it's a great book. One of the best of the new 52, at least so far. It looks like they are completely re-doing Swamp Thing, which (if so) will be wicked cool to watch unfold. There is a pretty big Zombie/Horror thing going on here too, if you're into that type of thing. Scott Snyder and Yanick Paquette are both top-notch. The panel separations through the entire book are stellar. Start reading Swamp Thing now.

Now we come to JLI #2, I was worried about this one. Awesome cover, it totally makes up for the cover of issue #1. This is the Booster Gold vehicle, I like Booster that's why I'm reading this one. Also Bruce is in it, and Beatriz too. Holy Redemption Batman!!! I wasn't a fan of issue 1, issue 2 is fantastic. Great dialogue, it's funny, a bit touching, and just an all around good team book. I thought the first one was way too childish. This is way more the JLI that I know and love. The old-school members in the book are Fire and Ice, Guy, Booster, Bruce, and Rocket Red. (just a heads up)

I'm not a fan of when the exact same "preview" is in the back of all issues for that week or month, it sucks. I'm sick of the Batman: Noel "preview" already, I hope it's gone next week and doesn't run the whole month.

I was going to pick up Penguin: Pain and Prejudice but I skipped it, I've read some articles since and might have to pick it up later, I'll let you know how it goes.

Last but not least for the night was Detective Comics #2. Right off the Bat (ha) I'm not a fan of this cover, I'm a huge TSD fan, but this is an all right splash page not a good cover. I liked issue 1's cover but this one is weak. Maybe DC is doing bat-vehicle month? I saw for the next B&R cover it's Bruce and Damian in the Batmobile. Not a fan of that one either. Interior art great as always. Meanwhile... Hold the boat!!! (bat-boat I guess) Did they just show Dr. Arkham after showing him crazy inside the asylum in Batman? Really? I'm hoping it's his brother Jakie or something. Gordon smokes again, kinda. He's been a cop for ten years at this point. (It's a timeline thing) In conclusion... WTF? (that's for you Uncle Charlie) One wild thing after another is happening here in Gotham. This shit is crazy, can't wait for next month.

Stop picking on Aquaman people and read his damn comic.

Thanks for stopping by.

And Thanks for reading.
