Last month on Warren Ellis's Whitechapel message boards, he gave artists the following challenge:

"In 1975, while promoting the New York Dolls, Malcolm McLaren got some people from DC incapably drunk and walked off with a two-year license on one of their properties. Went back to London, changed the shop name from SEX to SEDITIONARIES, then said, "here, Viv, you reckon we could blag fifty grand off someone to make a fillum?"

Growing up as a bit of a punk rocker as well as a geek, this clever spin by Annie Wu speaks to me. Batman and Supes give off a heavy Misfits vibe, The Flash is very Johnny Rotten-ish, and Wonder Woman's outfit is brilliant. Also gotta' love Aquaman horkin' his brains out in the back. Friggin' lightweight.

Who's Who: Plane crash survivors, Scott and his younger brother Alex, were orphaned as children. When Scott's optic blast powers manifested, he ran away from the orphanage, and was eventually taken in by Charles “Professor X” Xavier, becoming the first member of the future X-Men.  Groomed to lead, Scott eventually takes over not only the reins of the X-Men, but of all mutantkind.

Powers: Scott's primary ability is his optic blasts, of which he has mastery over. However, to help ontrol his power, Cyclops is forced to always wear ruby quartz glasses, a visor or contacts.  He is also a master strategist and tactician, possessing a greatly enhanced aptitude for spacial reasoning.

'Civilization: The Board Game' Gives Me Another Chance at World Domination

I can't say I'm totally board game savvy (as evidenced by the fact that my first game of "Settlers of Catan" was just a few weeks ago), but I do understand the prospect of a "Civilization" board game is a big deal. And looking at that art with all the cards and nations laid out above makes my mind just about cave in on itself.

Fantasy Flight Games is in charge of the "Civ" board game, and they've brought on Kevin Wilson as game designer. You may know his work from games like "Arkham Horror" and "Cosmic Encounter." I didn't, but if you play board games, you probably do.
