The Man of Steel is going for a year long walk across North America, and he could end up in West Reading.
As part of DC’s previously solicited “Grounded” storyline that begins in July’s Superman #701, (which has a prelude in the 700th anniversary issue) Superman will walk across the United States to reconnect with the everyday people he is committed to protecting.
The storyline, which kicks off writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Eddy Barrows run on the title, will be “grounded” in reality, according to the USA Today article. The national newspaper reports that DC will ask readers to write in and campaign for their towns and residents to be depicted in the 13-issue storyline.
Straczynski and DC's editorial team will select the featured locations.
"Because Superman is a symbol of hope, I wanted folks to have a chance to bring Superman into their town, into their neighborhood, in the pages of the book," Straczynski told USA Today.
Superman will reportedly witness the “best and the worst of everyday life”, from poverty and drug-plagued neighborhoods to stories of hope and happiness. It’s likely no coincidence Straczynski‘s extended storyline comes after Superman spent the better part of the last two years on New Krypton, living among his fellow Kryptonian who shared his superhuman abilities.
"We will be asking hard questions, and Superman will learn the extent to which even he may not be able to change things," Straczynski said. "But at the same time, we will explore the language of hope and feature the stubborn noble strength of the average man and woman trying to survive in a difficult and changing world. We will see Superman through the country's eyes, and the country through Superman's eyes."
